Schamrock-Festival 2022 - Editorial (scroll for english version)

Das Schamrock-Festival der Dichterinnen feiert 2022 sein 10jähriges Bestehen. Wir nehmen das Jubiläum zum Anlass uns zu fragen: Where are we now?

This year, the Schamrock-Festival of Women Poets celebrates its 10th anniversary. We take this as an opportunity to ask ourselves: Where are we now? What have we achieved, what has proven itself, what do we still want to achieve, what new terrain is still waiting for us?

Our festival photo of the peace demonstration of the Mujeres por la Paz I took at the Plaza Botero in Medellín in 2016, on occasion of the Festival Internacional de Poesía de Medellín, the peace there at the time seemed to be within reach. Now we have war in Europe. In 2018 poets from Ukraine were our guests and addressed the already ongoing war in their texts, when seemingly it had not yet arrived in our reality. Now, we will let voices from exile have their say. Poets from the neighboring countries of Lithuania, Estonia and Belarus complement our Ukraine focus.

Poetry shakes up, comforts, awakens, sharpens perception and motivates action. 65 female poets from over 20 countries meet our Munich colleagues for readings, international collaborations, workshops, panels and performances. We offer a place of transnational artistic and social dialogue, with each other and with the audience.

For Schamrock it was important from the very beginning, to invite female poets not only to readings but also to discuss the conditions of poetry writing in their respective countries. The German PEN takes care of persecuted authors, the Writers In Exile program is represented with two main focuses. And we are particularly happy to greet again poet and activist Tang Siu Wa from Hong Kong (and hope that she can actually leave and come).

10 Years Schamrock Festival: this is a success story from Munich, honored with the Anita Augspurg Prize of the City of Munich in 2022 and strengthened by the numerous positive feedbacks from poets, audience, sponsors and press from all over the world. With many international partnerships, our network connects Munich with the world, and the festival will have guest appearances in Vienna and Bamberg.

First and foremost, we would like to thank the cultural department of the City of Munich, which has supported the Festival and Salon from the very beginning, the Free State of Bavaria and in particular the German Literature Fund / Neustart Kultur, as well as more than 30 cultural and literary institutions from many countries supporting us morally and financially.

Enjoy the abundance, the diversity and power of poetry, the encounters with the poets and celebrate a splendid Poetry Festival with us. The festival will also be accessible via live stream, and all contributions will be presented online afterwards.

Tickets will be available at MünchenTicket, online or at their booking offices as well as at the venue.
